Channels DVR Server can add IPTV channels through its Custom Channels source, which uses an M3U playlist for the streams and XMLTV for guide data. You add the playlist as a new source on your Channels DVR Server, choose the stream format, and the channels appear alongside your other sources in the Channels apps.
What you need
- Channels DVR Server installed on a computer or NAS on your home network. Check Channels' website for current plans and pricing.
- Your provider's M3U playlist URL (or the playlist text), and an XMLTV guide URL if your provider supplies one.
- To know whether your provider's streams are HLS or MPEG-TS. Ask your provider if you're unsure.
Adding the playlist
- In your Channels DVR Server settings, add a new source and choose Custom Channels.
- Give the playlist a unique name.
- Choose the stream format: HLS or MPEG-TS.
- Add the playlist either by URL (recommended, because it stays current) or by pasting the M3U text.
- Add your XMLTV guide data if available, then let the server load channels and listings.
Tips
- Each live stream or recording uses one of your subscription's simultaneous connections. Keep your household's viewing within your plan's limit.
- If channels show no listings, the playlist's
tvg-idvalues may not match the guide. See EPG setup and troubleshooting. - If a stream won't play, test the same channel in VLC to rule out the source. See how to test an IPTV playlist.
- Recordings are for personal use within your subscription's terms.
Channels' documentation describes additional M3U and XMLTV tags it understands, such as categories for guide entries. Check it for advanced options.
